Edward Hopper, Night in the Park, 1921

Edward Hopper, Night in the Park, 1921
Edward Hopper (1882-1967) was a major realist painter of the American scene. In this monochrome etching a solitary man sits on a park bench reading a newspaper by the light of a street lamp. The nocturnal activity of the man seems quite unusual - is he waiting for someone, or just enjoying a bit of peace and quiet?
